6/5
Holly had her graduation party today. All of the hard work slaving away on the mulch-moving, garage-cleaning, table-hauling, and chair-arranging was paid off with many cups of punch. After 5 grad parties, I think we mastered the punch. And since I have attended quite a few graduation parties in my time, I think I have enough credentials to rate such things. :)
And the punch was necessary given the heat, which was enough to scare all but the strongest-of-heart into the garage or house. Of course, my brother, cousins, uncle, friends, and I still played ultimate frisbee in the backyard. And we had some volleyball and ladder golf set up in the yard. Although the yard was more like a parking lot by the time half of everyone got there. Nearly encroached on the athletic activities. And, in case you were wondering, I did put on sunscreen under my shirt... :)
It was fun seeing all of the family and friends, since I knew quite a few of the attendees. In fact, my science teacher from my freshman year in high school came. And I realized that it was 11 years ago that I was sitting in his class. Scary... I'm getting old... But I digress. Lindey made some more cookies for the party, which were a hit as always - along with the pulled pork, chips and salsa, veggies and dip, and, of course, the massive cake. Yep, we all ate quite well... :)
After the party, Lindey needed more help assembling the furniture for her room. The bed took about 2 hours to assemble, so I was figuring that a desk and dresser shouldn't take that long. Boy was I wrong. I did the desk by myself in about an hour. It was kind of like building LEGOs, but not as much fun. :) My mom and Bridget then came up to see if they could help with the dresser. They assembled the drawers while I made the frame. Lindey jumped in to help too. Since I was working so hard, I was pouring out sweat. I was having to dab my forehead with a paper towel in between steps to avoid dripping on the carpet. Gross, I know, but that's the way it goes sometimes. And there were just alot of pieces to put together. All in all, it took 2 more hours to put the dresser together. Not including the pain associated with forcing screws into the wood with the tiny little allen wrench you get (I didn't have my own allen wrench set). My thumbs were both sore by the end. But it looks good! I'll have to snap a picture later. :)
After the construction session, we had just enough time left in the day to play some Catch Phrase. Not everyone was around, so I had to play on the girls' team with Lindey, Holly, and my mom. We lost. Both games. Oh well, maybe next time...
Well, that's all of the excitement for today! Now we're finally caught up! :)
