Continuing the story of arriving on Tioman Island...

Wow, I'm behind again! :)  Quickly picking up where we left off yesterday...

So, back to arriving on Tioman Island, Malaysia.  We got in around 4pm; exhausted, tired, and hungry.  We were greeted by anxious taxi drivers to see if we needed a lift to our place of lodging.  They weren't pushy and quickly walked by if we said we were good.  So, we asked where our "resort" was and headed in the direction we were told.  We didn't bother to ask how far it was; we just started walking.  Now remember, we're hauling all of our stuff.  I had the big backpack on my back and drawstring bag on my front.  Bridget's got her backpack and another large bag slung over her shoulder.  And we're trudging along this road in the heat and humidity.  Needless to say, we were sweating a bit and anxious to get to our hotel.  It took about 15 minutes to get there, but it seemed much longer with the level of exertion each step took.  We dropped our stuff in our room and hit the beach (the restaurants didn't open until 6pm for dinner, so we had some time to burn).  The water was crystal clear and felt great.  We swam/floated about 50 ft. out from shore and the water was still waist high, which was a little unexpected.  But after a short float, we headed back and cleaned up for dinner.

We ate dinner at a seafood restaurant next door to our hotel (the Swiss Cottage Chalet).  It turns out that nearly every restaurant here is a seafood restaurant.  And they all serve Chinese food.  Which make sense since China is close and that style of food is probably pretty similar all over Asia.  Anyway, I had the sizzling squid dish (yes, it came out boiling pan of sauce...see below) and Bridget had sweet and sour chicken.  It was really good, especially after the last three days of travel and lots of snacks and airplane food (although the FinnAir food wasn't too bad).  And as we were eating, the sun set off to the west.  Picture perfect conclusion to our traveling.  Now we can spend a few days in the same place and not have to sleep on planes or catch buses at 6:30am...

Sizzling Squid! :)

Sunset from dinner
Alright, I'll break up the next few posts to make them easier to read (and in case I fall asleep in the middle of one...). :)
